The Maico Owners Club will mark a century of the German motorcycle marque at The Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show sponsored by Carole Nash, which returns to Staffordshire County Showground on October 10-11, 2026.

Visitors to the club stand will be able to join members in celebrating 100 years of Maico, with the display reflecting the marque’s long history and its enduring appeal among enthusiasts.

A century of Maico

Maico motorcycles began in 1926 when Ulrich Maisch founded Maico as a bicycle parts manufacturer in Pfäffingen, Germany.

After Ulrich Maisch handed over his company to his sons Otto and Wilhelm in 1931, they entered the motorbike manufacturing sector in 1934, initially using engines from Ilo and Sachs.

Following World War 2, the company transitioned to building complete two-stroke motorcycles and diversified into popular scooters such as the Maico Mobil and Maicoletta.

Maico’s off-road reputation

During the 1970s and early 1980s, Maico became particularly well known for its dirt bikes.

The club points to the 1981 MC 490cc as one of the standout machines from that era, widely regarded by enthusiasts as one of the great open-class dirt bikes thanks to its handling and two-stroke performance.

Anniversary celebrations in Germany

Several Maico Owners Club members headed to the 100-year Maico anniversary international meeting which took place on September 13, 2026 in Pfäffingen, Germany, the home of the Maico brand and former factory.

The celebrations will then continue at Stafford in October, where the club is looking forward to welcoming visitors to its stand.
